The side programme may include events that take place in the Tartu 2024 region, adhere to the Tartu 2024 guidelines for organising environmentally friendly events, connect with the creative concept and values of the Arts of Survival, and are accessible to a wider audience (both free and ticketed events). Please do not hesitate to apply!
What kind of events are invited to apply for the side programme?
The events that we look forward to becoming part of the side programme may, among others, cover genres or formats like architecture, concert, discussion, design, education, exhibition, fair, festival, film, folk culture, food culture, literature, party, performance, residency, sport, theatre, and so on.
What criteria are used to select events for the side programme?
The idea of the event, the history or novelty of the event, the audience and the reason for applying for the side programme, as well as the time of the event, are all considered when applying. Tartu 2024 Foundation will make the final decision on which events will be included in the side programme.
What exactly does "connect with the creative concept and values of the Arts of Survival" mean?
You can read more about it on our website, but in short, the Arts of Survival are the knowledge, skills, and values that will help us live well in the future, and which we want to share with Europe as well as learn more about. Uniqueness, sustainability, awareness, and co-creation are the four most important Arts of Survival or values expressed in the Tartu 2024 programme.
When should I schedule my event so that it does not conflict with another?
Several events will take place throughout Southern Estonia during the title year, so some overlap is unavoidable. When applying, we recommend considering the entire year, not just the summer. This way, you will have a better chance of standing out to those who are interested in Tartu as the European Capital of Culture in 2024!
Is it necessary for the event to have occurred previously, or can it be held for the first time in 2024?
Both historical and new events with a unique concept are encouraged to apply.
When will I find out if my event has been added to the side programme?
We will try to respond within three weeks of receiving your application.
Who should I contact if I want more information or have questions about the side programme?
If you have any questions, feel free to write to liisi.rohtung@tartu2024.ee.
